Scheduling, Insurance & Policies

Do you accept insurance?

Yes.

Family Life Counseling Center proudly accepts many commercial insurance plans, including:

  • BlueCross
  • SelectHealth
  • St. Luke’s Health Plan
  • Regence & Regence BlueShield
  • Mountain Health

If your insurance falls outside our direct billing network, we can also provide a superbill for potential reimbursement.

We encourage clients to understand the details of their own insurance plans, including deductibles, in-network or out-of-network status, and mental health coverage.

What should we know about payment and insurance?

Therapy is an investment in your emotional well-being, relationships, and long-term health.

Family Life Counseling Center accepts many commercial insurance plans and also welcomes self-pay clients. For plans outside our direct billing network, we can provide a superbill for possible reimbursement.

We accept:

  • Credit cards
  • HSA/FSA payments
  • Self-pay clients

Because insurance coverage varies, we encourage clients to understand their individual benefits, including deductibles, mental health coverage, and in-network or out-of-network status. Payment responsibility is due at the time of service unless otherwise arranged through insurance processing.

What insurance plans do you bill directly?

Family Life Counseling Center proudly accepts many commercial insurance plans, including:

  • BlueCross
  • SelectHealth
  • St. Luke’s Health Plan
  • Regence & Regence BlueShield
  • Mountain Health

If your insurance is outside our direct billing network, we can provide a superbill that you may submit for potential reimbursement.

What if I don't have insurance?

Many clients choose to pay directly for counseling services.

We offer a discounted self-pay rate of $180 per session and accept:

  • Credit cards
  • HSA/FSA payments
  • Check payments

Payment is due at the time of service.

What is your cancellation policy?

We request at least two business days’ notice whenever possible for cancellations or rescheduling.

Appointment times remain thoughtfully reserved and prepared specifically for each client, and this policy helps maintain scheduling consistency while also keeping appointments available for others seeking care.

If a cancellation occurs within two business days, the self-pay session fee may apply.

What time of day do you offer appointments?

Regular appointments are available Monday through Friday, with start times typically between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM.

Depending on availability, extended-hour appointments may be available earlier in the morning or later in the evening. During your first appointment, you and your therapist will determine a schedule that works best for your needs.

Do you offer evening appointments?

Some extended-hour availability may remain available depending on scheduling needs and current openings.

Many clients balance work, school, parenting responsibilities, athletics, and professional obligations, so scheduling flexibility remains an important part of the client experience whenever possible.

Do you offer telehealth appointments?

Yes.

Family Life Counseling Center offers telehealth counseling appointments for clients throughout Idaho when clinically appropriate.

Some clients prefer the flexibility and convenience of telehealth sessions, while others prefer in-person counseling at our Eagle office.

How long does a counseling session last?

Most counseling sessions last approximately 55–60 minutes.

If a different session length would be beneficial, your therapist will discuss available options with you.

Who Counseling Is For

What age groups do you work with?

Family Life Counseling Center works with:

  • Children
  • Adolescents and teens
  • Adults
  • Couples
  • Families

Treatment approaches remain tailored to each client’s developmental stage, emotional needs, and relational dynamics.

Who should attend child and adolescent appointments?

Parents are asked to attend the first appointment with their child or teen.

The initial session often includes time with:

  • Parents only
  • Parents and child together
  • Child or teen individually

After the first appointment, your therapist will work with you to determine the most effective structure for ongoing sessions based on your child’s needs and treatment goals.

How can I receive updates about my child's progress?

Family Life Counseling Center values parent involvement and collaboration throughout the counseling process.

Parents may request a dedicated parent session to discuss progress, treatment recommendations, communication strategies, and ways to support growth at home. These conversations may occur during a scheduled session, in place of a child session, or as an additional appointment when appropriate.

What is the difference between child counseling and adolescent counseling?

Children and adolescents process emotions differently, which means therapy approaches must adapt accordingly.

Child counseling often focuses more heavily on:

  • Emotional regulation
  • Behavioral structure
  • Play-informed interventions
  • Parent collaboration
  • Coping skill development

Adolescent counseling typically addresses:

  • Anxiety
  • Social pressure
  • School stress
  • Identity development
  • Emotional withdrawal
  • Confidence struggles
  • Communication challenges
  • Increasing independence and relational dynamics

Both approaches remain developmentally informed and family supportive.

How do you involve parents in the counseling process?

Parent involvement often plays an important role in helping progress continue outside the counseling office.

For child and adolescent counseling, parents typically attend the first appointment. Depending on treatment goals and the child’s age, sessions may include time with:

  • Parents alone
  • Parents and child together
  • Child or adolescent individually

Counseling may also include:

  • Parent coaching
  • Communication strategies
  • Behavioral structure support
  • Emotional regulation tools
  • Family feedback sessions

The goal remains helping healthier patterns continue throughout everyday family life — not only during counseling sessions.

Do you work with couples?

Yes.

Couples counseling focuses on identifying and changing the communication and emotional patterns contributing to conflict, emotional distance, or relational instability.

Common issues addressed include:

  • Communication breakdowns
  • Recurring arguments
  • Emotional disconnection
  • Parenting stress
  • Intimacy concerns
  • Trust issues
  • Conflict avoidance
  • Major life transitions

The goal is helping couples build healthier communication, stronger connection, and more intentional relational patterns over time.

Do you work with high-performing professionals or executives?

Yes.

Many professionals carry significant internal pressure while continuing to function at a high level externally.

Family Life Counseling Center works with:

  • Entrepreneurs
  • Executives
  • Physicians
  • Business owners
  • Athletes
  • Leaders
  • High-performing professionals

Counseling often focuses on:

  • Burnout
  • Chronic stress
  • Emotional exhaustion
  • Leadership pressure
  • Anxiety and overthinking
  • Work-life imbalance
  • Relationship strain
  • Emotional suppression

Do you work with first responders or military families?

Yes.

First responders, military personnel, law enforcement professionals, and their families often navigate chronic stress exposure, hypervigilance, emotional suppression, trauma responses, and communication strain that many people outside those environments may not fully understand.

Counseling provides a confidential, structured environment focused on resilience, emotional regulation, communication, and long-term stability.

Counseling Approaches & Therapy Methods

What types of counseling approaches do you use?

Family Life Counseling Center integrates several evidence-based therapy approaches depending on each client’s goals, developmental needs, relational dynamics, and presenting concerns.

Treatment may include:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Trauma-informed counseling
  • EMDR-informed approaches
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Mindfulness-based interventions
  • Attachment-focused therapy
  • Emotion-focused counseling
  • Parent coaching
  • Family systems therapy
  • Relational therapy
  • Developmentally informed child and adolescent counseling
  • Faith-integrated counseling when requested

Every treatment plan remains individualized rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach.

What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)?

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy helps clients better understand how thoughts, emotions, and behaviors influence one another.

Many anxiety and stress patterns continue because the brain repeats automatic emotional and behavioral responses over time.
CBT helps interrupt those cycles while building healthier and more effective ways of thinking, communicating, coping, and responding to stress.

This approach often helps clients experiencing:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Emotional reactivity
  • Chronic stress
  • Negative thought patterns
  • Behavioral challenges

What is trauma-informed counseling?

Trauma-informed counseling recognizes how unresolved experiences can affect emotional regulation, relationships, nervous system activation, stress responses, and behavioral patterns.

Rather than focusing only on symptoms, trauma-informed therapy helps clients:

  • Improve emotional regulation
  • Reduce nervous system overload
  • Strengthen coping responses
  • Increase emotional flexibility
  • Feel safer and more grounded over time

This approach often helps clients experiencing chronic anxiety, emotional overwhelm, hypervigilance, trauma responses, or relational instability.

What is EMDR-informed therapy?

EMDR-informed therapy helps the brain process unresolved or emotionally overwhelming experiences.

When certain experiences remain emotionally “stuck,” they can continue triggering emotional and physical stress responses long after the original event has passed.

EMDR-informed approaches help reduce the emotional intensity connected to those experiences so clients can respond more effectively in the present rather than reacting primarily from unresolved past experiences.

What is systems-based counseling?

Many emotional and relational struggles develop within interaction patterns between people rather than in isolation.

Systems-based counseling focuses on identifying how communication styles, emotional responses, family dynamics, and relational cycles contribute to stress and conflict.

This approach often works especially well for:

  • Couples counseling
  • Family counseling
  • Parenting challenges
  • Communication difficulties
  • Conflict cycles

What is parent coaching?

Parent coaching helps parents create healthier structure, communication, consistency, and emotional regulation within the home.

Many parents feel overwhelmed because reactions become inconsistent during stressful moments or behavioral struggles escalate repeatedly.

Parent coaching provides practical tools that improve:

  • Behavioral consistency
  • Emotional regulation
  • Parent-child communication
  • Family stability
  • Confidence in parenting responses

Do you offer faith-integrated counseling?

Yes, when clients request it.

Faith-integrated counseling allows spiritual beliefs and values to become part of the counseling process in ways that support treatment goals and emotional growth.

Some clients prefer a fully clinical approach, while others prefer counseling that incorporates faith alongside evidence-based therapy methods. Both approaches remain fully respected.

Counseling Results & Expectations

How long does counseling usually take?

The timeline varies depending on goals, emotional patterns, relational dynamics, and the complexity of the issues being addressed.

Some clients notice meaningful improvement relatively quickly, especially when addressing specific stressors or behavioral patterns. Others choose longer-term counseling to work through deeper emotional or relational concerns.

Rather than focusing strictly on a fixed timeline, therapy focuses on creating meaningful progress over time.

How do we know if counseling is working?

Progress in counseling often appears through consistent changes in everyday life rather than dramatic breakthroughs alone.

Clients frequently notice:

  • Reduced emotional reactivity
  • Greater emotional stability
  • Healthier communication
  • Improved coping responses
  • Increased confidence
  • Better relational dynamics
  • Clearer decision-making
  • Greater emotional flexibility

Over time, situations that once felt overwhelming often become more manageable and less emotionally controlling.

Will counseling feel uncomfortable sometimes?

At times, yes.

Meaningful growth often requires looking honestly at emotional patterns, communication habits, coping strategies, or relational dynamics that may no longer be serving you well.

At the same time, counseling remains structured and supportive throughout the process. The goal is helping clients create progress without becoming emotionally overwhelmed.

Do clients receive tools or strategies between sessions?

Yes.

Counseling focuses heavily on practical application rather than insight alone.

Clients frequently receive:

  • Communication strategies
  • Emotional regulation tools
  • Coping techniques
  • Parenting strategies
  • Reflection exercises
  • Behavioral recommendations
  • Practical interventions for real-world situations

The goal is helping progress continue outside the counseling office as well.

Still Have Questions?

Most people gain clarity by beginning the counseling process — not by waiting until they feel completely certain beforehand.
You do not need every answer before starting. You simply need a place to begin with structure, support, and clear direction.
